FAMILY ROOMS

REMODEL

This family room transformation is a personal favorite.  Who doesn't love a good accent wall?!  We began by removing the existing base boards, trim, floor vents, carpet, and wallpaper.  The door pictured had once led into what is now the garage, but had been sealed up on the garage side.  It lacked function, presented code violations, and was inconveniently located in this already-small living space, so we were glad to get rid of it and replace it with some fresh drywall.  We ran electrical (installing new high hats and additional outlets), skim coated the walls and ceiling, refinished the existing hardwood floors, and applied fresh paint to the walls and ceiling.  We mounted reclaimed barn wood to create the accent wall and installed new baseboards, trim, and floor vents.  The AC unit was a real eye sore in this beautiful bay window, so we relocated it to another room.  We furnished the room with a mostly neutral color palate, adding some pops of reds, teals, and navy blues.   To achieve a happy balance of masculine and feminine, we decorated with some science-themed wall art, dried roses (saved from my bridal shower), an artificial bouquet (from our wedding), an antique teal tool box (to be used as a succulent planter box) and matching teal watering can, and a collage of wedding portraits (our own, and those of our parents, grandparents, and some great grandparents).
